Austria

Obergurgl Hochgurgl

Austria's highest parish and its most snow-sure resort — the village sits at 1,930 m and rarely disappoints. Small, quiet and expensive, with a loyal repeat clientele.

Worth knowing. Small, expensive, and there is almost nothing to do off the snow.

Austria

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

Probably the best family resort in the Alps: an underground railway into a car-free village, childcare that starts at three months, and 214 km of piste above it. Priced accordingly, and worth it if the children are small.

Worth knowing. Priced for families who have already decided. It is not a bargain.

Bold marks the winner. Rows where neither is bold are close enough that the difference would not change a decision. Cost excludes travel, which depends on where you leave from.

Piste kilometres, lift counts and prices are indicative and compiled from public sources — they have not yet been checked against the resort's own figures for this season. Costs are planning estimates, not quotes. Spotted one that is wrong? Tell us.
